Retirees Are Moving to These Parts of America in Huge Numbers

America’s population is aging rapidly, and many retirees are choosing to relocate after leaving the workforce. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, millions of Americans age 65 and older move each year, often seeking warmer climates, lower taxes, and areas with a lower cost of living.

These migration patterns can have significant economic effects, reshaping housing markets, local economies, and healthcare demand in certain regions. In recent years, many counties across the Sun Belt have become major destinations for retirees thanks to favorable tax policies, mild weather, and growing retirement communities.

To identify where retirees are moving, My Investing News reviewed data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey and ranked counties by the number of adults age 65 and older who moved there in 2022 from another county, state, or country.

Here are the parts of America attracting the largest influx of retirees.

Nearly 3.2 million Americans aged 65 and older moved to a new home in 2022. While retirement age adults are spread across the country, retirees who have the means to relocate have some clear preferences on where to live. There are only 45 counties nationwide that reported an influx of more than 5,000 adults over the age of 64 in 2022.
