The Most Expensive Town to Buy a Home in Every State, Per Zillow

Home prices can tell you a lot about a place, including who wants to live there, who can afford to, and what the local economy has been doing for the past decade or longer. The most expensive towns in each state aren't just random, but they often cluster around water, wealth, and proximity to high-paying job markets. They carry school district reputations, commute advantages, and in many cases, the kind of scarcity that keeps prices elevated regardless of what interest rates are doing.

Zillow's latest data puts a number on this premium. From a coastal enclave in Maine to a desert enclave in Arizona, the priciest zip codes in each state all share a common thread: demand has consistently outrun supply, and buyers have consistently paid up to get in. Some of these towns will surprise you, while others will be exactly where you expect them to be, as they are the same names that have been topping lists like these for years.

The price reflects Zillow's median home value, so what the market is actually clearing, and not just what sellers are asking. The gap between those two numbers has mattered more in the past few years than at almost any point in recent memory.
