The Highest-Earning ZIP Code in Every State, According to Census Data

The Census Bureau's American Community Survey doesn't just count people; it also maps out, among other things, how much people earn. Through its annual household income estimates, the ACS identifies where money concentrates at the ZIP code level, producing one of the most granular pictures of American wealth available from a public source.

The data isn't perfect, and it's not real-time, as this is from 2024, considering that 2025 data won't be released until December 2026. This said, it's the most methodologically consistent income dataset the country produces, which makes comparisons across states and regions meaningful in a way that most private surveys are not.

The one caveat is that the ACS top-codes household income at $250,000, meaning that any household earning above that threshold is recorded at the ceiling, not with an actual figure. There is also something to be said about how real these numbers are when looking at regional economies, as earnings in Mississippi can stretch more than in New York or California.
