Key Points
-
The stock market has been remarkably bullish today.
-
Chip stocks are spearheading the gains, and other AI stocks are also up sharply.
-
Dozens of individual stocks have made sharp moves in both directions.
Stocks in almost every sector, minus energy, have been roaring higher today. This is despite a fresh conflict in the Middle East and slow progress on trade talks. The tariff pause expiry is also closing in fast, but Wall Street has been remarkably bullish.
Today’s rally stems from investors betting on a de-escalation between Iran and Israel. The worst-case scenario seems to have been averted, as Iran has signaled it is willing to negotiate. There was the risk of this conflict quickly spiraling out of control if Iran hit U.S. military bases and closed the Strait of Hormuz. This would’ve caused a worldwide crisis, since a fifth of all the oil and natural gas flows through it.
Regardless, the market seems very bullish in the meantime, and this could continue if the conflict in the Middle East stays “limited” in Wall Street’s eyes.
