These Two Cities Have More Fortune 2000 Companies Than New York City

Every year. Forbes publishes the Forbes 2000, the 2,000 largest public companies in the world. While New York City remains the corporate capital of the United States, this year's list shows other metropolises may be gaining ground in global financial markets. While New York City is home to 56 of the world's 2,000 largest companies, the Big Apple is outranked by two cities in Asia.

The eastward shift in corporate might reflects not just the rise of emerging markets, but the influence of state-backed conglomerates in China and sprawling industrial conglomerates in Japan and Korea, where government policy, infrastructure, and corporate ecosystems are closely linked. Cities like Seoul, Shanghai, and Mumbai are also rising fast, thanks to booming energy, manufacturing, and tech sectors. A closer look at the data reveals the cities with the most Fortune 2000 companies.

To determine the cities with the most Fortune 2000 companies, My Investing News reviewed data on corporate headquarters from Fortune. Cities were ranked based on the total number of Fortune 2000 headquarters as of 2025. Supplemental data on total annual corporate revenue are also from Fortune.
